Are you ready to shape a creative and dynamic department? A school in Redbridge is looking for an inspiring Head of Design Technology to lead their department from September 2025.
This is a full-time, permanent role with a TLR 2b (£5,833), offering the opportunity to guide a key subject area that fosters innovation, problem-solving, and practical learning. The school is looking for a leader who can drive high standards, nurture creativity, and inspire both students and staff.
You'll be responsible for overseeing curriculum delivery, managing a small but passionate team, and ensuring that Design Technology remains a forward-looking subject rooted in real-world application. Whether your expertise is in Product Design, Resistant Materials, Graphics, or Engineering, you'll have the opportunity to shape a department with vision, purpose, and imagination.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the Design Technology department across all key stages
Oversee curriculum planning, teaching standards, and assessment strategies
Support, mentor, and develop departmental staff
Manage resources, budget, and safe use of specialist equipment
Promote cross-curricular links and enrichment opportunities
Monitor pupil progress and implement strategies for improvement
Contribute to the wider school leadership and development initiatives
Qualifications and Experience
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Strong experience teaching Design Technology in secondary settings
Proven ability to lead, inspire, and develop a team
In-depth knowledge of the DT curriculum and practical teaching methods
Excellent organisation, communication, and leadership skills
Commitment to inclusion, progress, and creative learning
Experience with health and safety procedures in DT is preferred
