Job summary

West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) seeks an experienced leader to join Transport for West Midlands as Head of Client, taking operational leadership of WMCA's Bus Company client function. You will be WMCA's primary contact for Bus Company activity and manage the strategic relationship between the organisations.

The role requires governance, board reporting, risk and financial oversight, plus leading, developing and influencing across senior stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Experience operating within governance, board reporting, secretariat or corporate decision-making environments.
• Strong stakeholder management, networking and influencing across senior leaders and external partners.
• Sound political, commercial and organisational judgement for complex issues.
• Ability to translate operational/financial information into clear advice for boards.
• Budget, resource, risk, governance and compliance management.
• Effective operational and people leadership, with track record of delivering improvements.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate working-level engagement between the Bus Company and WMCA operational leads.
• Maintain oversight of activities, actions, issues and risks.
• Escalate critical issues to the Bus Company Board as needed.
• Provide governance insight to support board decisions and reporting.
• Act as Board Secretary, supporting the Chair with governance materials and decisions.
• Coordinate Board reporting and escalation materials.
• Support governance with corporate shareholder function and oversight of business plan.
• Provide professional advice and assurance to senior leaders.
• Lead, manage and develop managers and specialists.
• Drive service improvement, risk management and high-quality delivery.
