Job summary

OpenGate Education in Tees Valley is seeking a Head of Centre to run a new provision from the ground up, shaping culture, curriculum and the learning environment. You will lead staff, oversee education quality and learner welfare, and build strong relationships with families, schools and partners.

The role involves establishing routines, safeguarding, and delivering a responsive curriculum that blends academic, vocational and outdoor learning to support each learner’s progression.

Qualifications

• Must hold QTS and a relevant degree or equivalent.
• Experience teaching secondary learners, including SEND/SEMH.
• Proven team leadership or curriculum/pastoral experience.
• Strong safeguarding knowledge and inclusive practice.
• Ability to adapt lessons for varied needs and disrupted learning.
• Calm, consistent behaviour management and boundary setting.

Responsibilities

• Open and prepare the new provision for opening with clear routines for staff and learners.
• Lead a safe, welcoming and inclusive learning environment.
• Plan and deliver engaging lessons for diverse learners.
• Oversee a personalised curriculum integrating academics, vocational and outdoor learning.
• Lead, coach and develop the centre team.
• Embed safeguarding, attendance and positive behaviour practices.
• Monitor learner progress and update families, schools and commissioners.
• Work with partners on referrals, placements and reintegration.
• Manage staffing, timetables and resources with Directors.
• Contribute to centre improvement and future registrations.
