Job summary

SGS is seeking a hands-on Workshop Foreman in Consett to take ownership of the busy Materials Testing workshop. You will supervise and develop the team, drive health and safety compliance, and actively participate in machining tasks to deliver exceptional client service.

The role requires prior workshop supervisory experience in manufacturing or materials testing, strong hands-on machining skills, and the ability to interpret technical drawings and instructions.

• Strong health and safety awareness and policy compliance
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and work instructions

Responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day operation of the Consett workshop, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required standards.
• Lead, mentor and support workshop personnel, ensuring effective utilisation of resources and continuous development of team members.
• Take responsibility for health and safety compliance across the Consett site, working in line with company policies and procedures.
• Carry out a variety of hands-on workshop activities including machining, milling, turning, grinding, linishing and processing test samples.
• Coordinate workshop activities including booking work into the MRF system, housekeeping, maintenance tasks and supporting operational requirements as needed.
