Job summary

Forward Assist Recruitment is seeking a Maintenance/Workshop Supervisor in the United Kingdom. The role involves supervising daily workshop operations with hands-on involvement to ensure safety, efficiency, and top-quality outcomes.

You will lead, mentor and develop workshop personnel, promote a strong safety culture and world-class housekeeping, while maintaining productivity and meeting deadlines for ongoing and upcoming projects.

Qualifications

  • GCSEs at Grade 5 or above including Maths and English.
  • Time served mechanical/electrical apprenticeship.
  • HNC or equivalent Engineering qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise workshop staff and apprentices ensuring safety and quality standards.
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance, fault finding and troubleshooting support.
  • Ensure health, safety, environmental and company procedures are followed.
  • Monitor productivity and completion of work schedules to meet deadlines.
  • Train, coach and mentor team members and apprentices.
  • Coordinate equipment and resource availability with the workshop planner.
  • Assess equipment on return from projects.
  • Supervise engineering teams to support projects in country.

Job description

Our client provides automated welding, field joint coating, and specialized equipment for global pipeline, energy, and critical infrastructure projects and they are looking to add a Maintenance/ Workshop Supervisor to their existing management team.

As Maintenance/Workshop Supervisor you will supervise and support daily workshop operations through active hands-on involvement, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. The role is responsible for leading, mentoring, and developing workshop personnel, promoting a positive safety culture, World class housekeeping standards, maintaining productivity, and ensuring operational targets and deadlines are consistently achieved.

  • Supervising and supporting workshop staff and apprentices to ensure work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in line with company standards and operational requirements.
  • Providing hands-on technical guidance, fault finding and troubleshooting support to assist with the completion of maintenance, repair, and operational tasks.
  • Ensuring all health, safety, environmental, and company procedures are consistently followed.
  • Monitoring productivity, quality of completed work, and completion of work schedules to ensure deadlines, performance targets, and customer expectations are achieved.
  • Training, coaching, and mentoring team members and apprentices to develop technical skills, competency, and professional growth within the workshop environment.
  • Working alongside the workshop planner to Coordinate equipment and resource availability to ensure efficient workflow and support operational priorities.
  • Assessment of equipment upon return from projects.
  • Supervise Engineering teams to support upcoming and ongoing projects in country.
Job Specific Education Required:
  • 5 GCSEs at Grade 5 or above including Math’s & English
  • Time served Mechanical/electrical apprenticeship
  • HNC or equivalent Engineering qualification
Work Experience Required:
  • Proven experience working within a workshop, engineering, manufacturing, maintenance, or technical environment with experience or understanding of the 5s process
  • Strong hands-on technical experience, including fault finding, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair activities relevant to the workshop operation.
  • Experience working to health, safety, and quality standards within a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate workloads, prioritise tasks, and meet operational deadlines effectively.
  • Experience training, mentoring, or supporting the development of apprentices.
  • Familiarity with equipment control, asset tracking, and workshop resource management processes.
