Job summary

GAP Group Ltd. is seeking a skilled Workshop Foreman for our Birmingham Plant & Tools division. You will lead a depot workshop, ensure our fleet of diggers, dumpers, and power tools is maintained and hire-ready, and drive performance with a focus on safety and quality.

You will oversee workloads, coach staff, implement maintenance programs, and maintain compliance with legislation while fostering career growth in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Ideally experience in a senior plant mechanic/fitter role, with a relevant qualification or time-served background.
  • Solid, up-to-date knowledge of heavy plant machinery maintenance.
  • A full, valid driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the day-to-day running of the depot workshop and ensuring plant equipment is consistently available for hire
  • Allocating and monitoring workloads across the fitter team to maximise productivity and meet performance targets
  • Leading by example to maintain high standards of safety, service, and equipment care
  • Implementing planned maintenance programmes to reduce downtime and repair costs
  • Ensuring accurate records of servicing, repairs, and appliance testing are maintained and compliant with legislation
  • Managing workshop cleanliness, vehicle maintenance schedules, and off-hire inspections
  • Coaching and developing workshop staff, identifying training needs, and supporting career growth
  • Monitoring plant breakdowns and ensuring efficient resolution
  • Ensuring appropriate PPE is worn and safe working practices are followed at all times
