Job summary

South West Water is seeking a Mechanical Craftsperson to maintain and repair water treatment assets, pumping stations and reservoirs. The role is hands-on, focusing on fault-finding and mechanical improvements to ensure safe, reliable water services while protecting the environment.

You will work as part of a team, tackling diverse mechanical challenges and developing technical skills within a safety-focused, operational setting.

Qualifications

• A completed apprenticeship in a mechanical or relevant technical discipline.
• Proven experience maintaining and repairing mechanical equipment.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills, with the ability to repair complex mechanical assets.
• A sound understanding of RAMS and safe systems of work.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team in a safety-critical environment.
• Experience working within wastewater treatment processes would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out reactive maintenance, repairs and fault-finding on a wide range of mechanical assets.
• Manufacturing, modifying and fabricating parts and equipment when required.
• Producing detailed specifications for replacement components and equipment.
• Supporting operational teams in diagnosing and resolving complex mechanical issues.
• Working safely and ensuring RAMS compliance.
• Participating in the standby and call-out rota to support operational resilience.
• Contributing to the continuous improvement of asset performance and reliability.
