Job summary

Think FE is recruiting a Personal Tutor – Construction to join a newly opening specialist SEND college campus in Doncaster. You will deliver hands-on construction training and Functional Skills for learners with SEND, adapting to individual needs in a supportive environment.

You will assess progress, provide feedback and work with staff to promote safe practices while maintaining learner records and learning plans.

Qualifications

• A recognised teaching qualification.
• Level 2 qualifications in English and maths (or recognised equivalents).
• Strong practical experience and knowledge within construction.
• Ability to deliver engaging, practical lessons to learners with different abilities.
• A patient, adaptable and supportive approach to teaching.
• Level 3 qualification in Carpentry, Plumbing, Multi-Skills or another relevant construction trade.
• Previous experience teaching or supporting learners with SEND, SEMH or additional learning needs.
• Experience delivering Functional Skills.
• Previous teaching experience within further education, specialist colleges or alternative provision.

Responsibilities

• Deliver practical construction skills training across a range of trades, including carpentry, plumbing and general construction.
• Teach and support learners with Functional Skills in English and maths.
• Plan and deliver engaging, accessible lessons tailored to learners with SEND.
• Support learners in developing practical skills, confidence and independence.
• Monitor learner progress, assess achievements and provide constructive feedback.
• Adapt teaching methods and resources to meet different learning needs and abilities.
• Work closely with colleagues and support staff to create a positive, inclusive learning environment.
• Maintain accurate learner records and contribute to individual learning plans.
• Promote safe working practices within construction workshops and practical learning environments.
