Job summary

The Haematology Department at Birmingham Women’s Hospital site has a vacancy for a Biomedical Scientist. Applicants must be HCPC registered and eligible to work in the UK. Experience in haematology and blood transfusion is essential, with IBMS specialist portfolio desirable.

We welcome Band 5 applicants working toward IBMS Specialist Portfolio. The role requires rotation across sections and participation in 24/7 shift rotas, including nights, at the Birmingham Women’s Hospital site.

Qualifications

• Registration with HCPC.
• Knowledge and practical skills in Blood Transfusion.
• Knowledge and practical skills in Haematology / Coagulation.
• BSc Biomedical Science or equivalent.
• IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Haematology and Blood Transfusion preferred.
• Knowledge of Blood Film Morphology.

Responsibilities

• Rotate through all sections of the department.
• Work to a 24/7 shift rota including nights.
• This position is at Birmingham Women’s Hospital site only.
• Cross-check and validate haematology results and transfusion requirements.
