Job Purpose
The Group Tax Assistant will support the Group Tax Manager in handling UK and Group tax issues, which encompass UK GAAP and IFRS tax accounting for consolidated taxes. This role includes aiding with transfer pricing and various tax initiatives, as well as providing assistance to the US tax team regarding US tax compliance. The position reports directly to the Group Tax Manager located at the London headquarters, while also maintaining a dotted line into the US tax team.
Key Accountabilities
- Support the Group Tax Manager in the preparation of half-year and year-end tax reporting in accordance with IFRS.
- Prepare Country by Country reporting for submission in the UK.
- Assist with Pillar 2 (BEPS 2.0) compliance / reporting, working with external advisors as required.
- Review specific claims for UK corporate tax returns, including R&D tax credits and capital allowances, working alongside external advisors, in-house R&D teams, and local engineers to identify and categorise expenditures.
- Support the development of the Group Master File and Local File documentation for the UK, Europe, and the US as needed.
- Aid in the preparation of ad hoc employment tax reports for HMRC (such as Appendix 4 and 8).
- Contribute to the transition towards tax digitalisation and the use of technology to enhance processes and controls within the tax function.
- Provide assistance with various tax requests from the business, including filling out tax residence forms and obtaining certificates from tax authorities.
US Responsibilities
- Support the US tax team in preparing tax compliance for both the US and Canada, which includes federal and state income tax, sales and use tax, and property tax. This involves collecting information for external advisors, reviewing tax assessment notices, and coordinating tax payments with the treasury team in the UK.
- Assist the US tax team in gathering information for US tax audits and in preparing the US tax provision for mid-year and year-end group reporting.
- Identify opportunities for process enhancements to improve efficiency and streamline operations.
Essential Skills
- Experience working in an accounting firm either specialising in tax / with an interest in corporate tax, or current employment in an in-house finance or tax position.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Able to handle multiple tasks while meeting deadlines, and excellent organisational capabilities.
- Proficient in both verbal and written communication, familiarity with SAP is a plus but not mandatory, and a keen interest in technology.
Location and Travel requirements:
The position is located in the London (Victoria) office, with a minimum requirement of three days per week in the office as part of the hybrid working arrangement.
