Job summary

Citizen Housing Group in Birmingham is seeking a Grounds Maintenance Operative - Gardener to maintain and enhance our estates. The role requires driving a manual company vehicle, 37 hours per week, and working Monday to Friday with occasional adjustments.

You will perform grass cutting, hedge trimming, and general landscape upkeep across housing estates. The ideal candidate will be experienced in grounds maintenance, capable of operating ride-on and pedestrian mowers, strimmers, and related

• Experience in grounds maintenance preferred.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality grass cutting across estates and communal areas.
• Safely remove and dispose of green waste to keep sites clean.
• Maintain landscapes with hedge/tree trimming and seasonal planting.
• Use strimmers and powered tools to edge borders and tidy hard-to-reach areas.
• Perform weed control using approved methods to keep estates presentable.
• Support shrub pruning and general maintenance for color and health.
• Engage in litter picking and site tidying to ensure safe estates.
• Assist with light repairs to paved areas for safety and presentation.

Position: Grounds Maintenance Operative - Gardener

Salary: £25,893per annum

Location: Birmingham, B37 7YN

Basis:Permanent, 37 hours per week,Monday to Thursday 7:30 to 15:30 and Friday 7:30 to 15:00

You must be able to drive a manual company vehicle as part of your role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Take pride in delivering high-quality grass cutting across our estates and communal areas. Using a range of modern tools and equipment, you’ll ensure every lawn is left looking neat, tidy and well cared for.
• You’ll be responsible for the safe removal and disposal of green waste, helping us keep all sites clean, tidy and environmentally compliant.
• From hedge and bush reduction to careful shaping and trimming, you’ll play a key part in keeping our landscapes healthy, attractive and well-maintained all year round.
• Use strimmers and other powered tools to give borders, edges and hard-to-reach spots a crisp, polished finish — ensuring every area looks its best.
• You’ll carry out effective weed control using approved methods, helping keep estates presentable and supporting long-term landscape health.
• Take ownership of shrub pruning, maintenance and seasonal planting, contributing to colourful, vibrant and welcoming outdoor spaces.
• Play an important role in maintaining safe and attractive estates through regular litter picking and general site tidying.
• Support the upkeep of paved and slabbed areas with light repairs, sweeping, weed treatment and general maintenance to ensure they remain safe and well-presented.

We would be really excited if you have (Desirable):

• PA1 & PA6 spraying licence
• Banksman training
• Licence to drive a trailer
