Job description

Graduate Learning Support Assistant - Sunderland Secondary Schools
Competitive Daily Rates, Long-Term, ASAP Start

Teaching Personnel is recruiting graduates for Learning Support Assistant roles across secondary schools in Sunderland, with positions available immediately. These roles are particularly well suited to Psychology, Sports Science, Health, or Social Care graduates — degrees that translate directly into understanding how young people think, behave, and learn.

That said, applications are welcome from graduates of any discipline who have a genuine interest in working with young people and building a career in education. What matters most is the right attitude, a willingness to get stuck in, and the ability to build meaningful relationships with students who need consistent, reliable support.

For those considering teacher training, educational psychology, or a long-term career in SEND, an LSA role is one of the strongest starting points available.

What the role involves:

  • Supporting students with a range of additional needs across KS3 and KS4
  • Delivering 1:1 and small group interventions
  • Assisting teachers with classroom management and differentiated delivery
  • Helping students access the curriculum and develop greater independence
  • Liaising with the SENCO and wider support team as required

What we're looking for:

  • A degree in Psychology, Sports Science, Health, Social Care, or a related discipline — desirable
  • Graduates of any subject with a genuine interest in education are also welcome
  • Enthusiasm for working with secondary aged young people
  • Patient, empathetic, and confident building relationships with complex learners
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one

What Teaching Personnel offers:

  • Competitive daily rates
  • Weekly pay via PAYE
  • Dedicated consultant support
  • Free CPD and SEND-focused training
  • A clear pathway into permanent roles or teacher training
