Balliol College, Oxford, seeks an Assistant Dean for the Graduate Centre at Holywell Manor. This part-time, fixed-term role requires living on site and overseeing welfare, events, and decanal duties for graduate students.

The post emphasizes safeguarding, confidential handling, training, and close collaboration with College Officers and welfare services. No defined hours; flexible weekly schedule to support emergencies and research-related events.

Qualifications

• Engaged in active research or teaching in the University context.
• Appreciation of welfare and disciplinary issues relevant in a student community.
• Experience in decanal and/or welfare roles within higher education.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to engage diverse groups.
• Excellent command of English (oral and written) and discretion with confidential information.
• Willingness to undertake training (First Aid, welfare-related).
• Experience handling emergencies and ensuring safety and inclusivity.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day decanal authority in the Graduate Centre.
• Uphold College rules and maintain a supportive environment for international graduate students.
• Sign-post students to welfare resources and university services.
• Coordinate logistics with staff for events and safety at Graduate Centre.
• Ensure proper liaison with Lodge Porters, Junior Deans, and Centre staff.
• Attend to emergencies and provide on-site support as needed.
