Milk Education is recruiting a Graduate 1:1 SEND Support Assistant to provide dedicated support to a pupil in a specialist SEN school in Durham. You'll work alongside experienced teachers and SEND professionals to gain hands-on experience while developing skills for your future career.
This role offers valuable exposure to autism and additional needs, behaviour management, and strategies to support learning.
Qualifications
- Graduates from Psychology, Education, Childhood Studies, Speech & Language, Sports/Coaching, Sociology, Health & Social Care, or English/Math/Science.
- No Teaching Assistant qualification required.
- Experience with children and young people through tutoring, mentoring, volunteering, youth work or childcare is relevant.
Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil throughout the school day.
- Support communication and social development.
- Help with emotional regulation and behaviour.
- Support access to learning and classroom activities.
- Deliver personalised activities and interventions.
- Encourage confidence, independence and positive relationships.
- Use creative, practical and sensory activities.
- Work closely with teachers and the wider SEND team.
- Monitor progress and celebrate achievements.
