Job summary

Milk Education is recruiting a Graduate 1:1 SEND Support Assistant to provide dedicated support to a pupil in a specialist SEN school in Durham. You'll work alongside experienced teachers and SEND professionals to gain hands-on experience while developing skills for your future career.

This role offers valuable exposure to autism and additional needs, behaviour management, and strategies to support learning.

Qualifications

• Graduates from Psychology, Education, Childhood Studies, Speech & Language, Sports/Coaching, Sociology, Health & Social Care, or English/Math/Science.
• No Teaching Assistant qualification required.
• Experience with children and young people through tutoring, mentoring, volunteering, youth work or childcare is relevant.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil throughout the school day.
• Support communication and social development.
• Help with emotional regulation and behaviour.
• Support access to learning and classroom activities.
• Deliver personalised activities and interventions.
• Encourage confidence, independence and positive relationships.
• Use creative, practical and sensory activities.
• Work closely with teachers and the wider SEND team.
• Monitor progress and celebrate achievements.
