Job summary

Milk Education is seeking a dedicated 1:1 SEND Support Assistant in North Shields to support a pupil with additional learning and communication needs. You will work closely with the class teacher, SENDCo and multidisciplinary team to deliver tailored support aimed at enabling learning, confidence and independence.

Ideal candidates will have experience with SEND, autism/ADHD, and a patient, collaborative approach.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND in school, care, nursery or community settings.
  • Familiarity with supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, SEMH or related needs.
  • Patient, caring and resilient, able to adapt to individual needs.
  • Commitment to helping children overcome barriers to learning and reach potential.

Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated one-to-one support throughout the school day.

  • Encourage independence with appropriate guidance and reassurance.

  • Use a nurturing approach to support emotional regulation and behavior.
  • Monitor progress and feed back to staff on achievements and areas to improve.

1:1 SEND Support Assistant

Location: North Shields, Newcastle Upon Tyne

Salary: £540 - £570 per week (depending on experience)

Contract: Full-time, Temporary with the opportunity to become permanent

Start Date: September 2026

Are you passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to achieve their full potential? We're working with a welcoming and inclusive SEND provision in Gosforth to recruit a dedicated 1:1 SEND Support Assistant to provide personalised support for a pupil with additional learning and communication needs.

This rewarding role focuses on helping a child access learning, build confidence, develop independence and make positive progress both academically and socially. You'll work closely with the class teacher, SENDCo and wider multidisciplinary team to deliver tailored support that enables the pupil to thrive in a nurturing and supportive learning environment.

About the Role

As a 1:1 SEND Support Assistant, you'll:

  • Provide dedicated one-to-one support throughout the school day.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet the individual needs of the pupil.
  • Support pupils with SEND, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language needs, SEMH or other additional needs.
  • Encourage independence while providing the right level of guidance and reassurance.
  • Build a positive, trusting relationship that promotes confidence, wellbeing and engagement in learning.
  • Work alongside the class teacher, SENDCo and wider staff team to implement personalised learning and support strategies.
  • Use a patient, nurturing and flexible approach to support emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff on achievements and areas for development.
About You

We're looking for candidates who are:

  • Experienced working with children or young people with SEND in a school, care, nursery or community setting.
  • Knowledgeable or experienced supporting pupils with Autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language needs, SEMH or other additional needs.
  • Patient, caring and resilient, with the ability to adapt to the individual needs of each child.
  • Passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential.
  • Confident building positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.
  • Able to work collaboratively as part of a wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Hold (or are willing to apply for) an Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service.
