Job summary

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a proactive GP Assistant to join a busy GP Practice in Gosport. You will support GPs with administrative tasks and carry out basic clinical duties to help improve patient flow and experience.

Key duties include preparing patients, screening online consultations, data entry from clinical letters, arranging appointments and tests, taking histories and basic measurements, and supporting immunisations and wound care as required.

• Filtering clinical documents and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions.
• Filtering online consultations to ensure the patient sees the right clinician at the right time.
• Extracting information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes.
• Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patients.
• Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP, taking a brief history and basic readings.
• Dipping urine, taking blood pressure, ECGs & Phlebotomy.

The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication and organisation skills, and have the ability to work as part of an integrated multi-skilled team, within a fast-paced environment. • Filtering all clinical documents and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions. Signposting some post to others such as clinical pharmacist etc.
• Filtering on-line consultations to ensure the patient sees the right clinician at the right time.
• Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes.
• Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patients.
• Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP, taking a brief history and basic readings in readiness for GP appointment.
• Dipping urine, taking blood pressure, ECGs & Phlebotomy.
• Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc GPA Competency Framework 2.
• Explaining treatment procedure to patients
• Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies e.g. getting an on call doctor on the phone to ask advice of arrange admission while the GP can continue with their consultation(s).
• Support the GP with immunisations/wound care.
