Job summary

The British Standards Institution (BSI) in Hemel Hempstead is seeking a Global Laboratory Manager to lead the Hemel Hempstead laboratory, ensuring ISO 17025 compliance, operational excellence and strategic development.

You will drive performance, coordinate global alignment across the laboratory network, manage budgets and coach a high-performing team to deliver safe, reliable testing services for clients worldwide.

Qualifications

• Significant experience leading a laboratory or operational testing environment.
• Strong understanding of ISO 17025 and quality management systems.
• Proven ability to manage financial performance (budget & margin).
• Experience leading teams and developing organisational capability.
• Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the safe, efficient and profitable delivery of laboratory operations, ensuring excellent customer outcomes, effective resource planning and operational resilience.
• Own laboratory financial performance through budget management, resource utilisation and operational efficiency, while supporting business growth.
• Create an engaged, high-performing team through coaching, performance management, succession planning and continuous professional development.
• Maintain exceptional quality standards through ISO 17025 compliance, audit readiness, robust governance and a right-first-time culture.
• Identify opportunities to improve productivity, standardise processes, implement best practice and support digital transformation across laboratory operations.
• Develop trusted partnerships with customers, 3rd party labs, commercial teams and technical specialists to ensure outstanding service delivery and future growth.
