Job summary

BSI currently seeks a Test Engineer for our Life Protection laboratory in Hemel Hempstead. You will perform hands‑on mechanical testing of respiratory products, operate advanced test rigs, and analyse results to ensure performance against British and International standards.

The role emphasizes precise reporting, adherence to procedures, and collaboration with colleagues and customers. Training and development opportunities accompany a comprehensive reward package.

Qualifications

• Minimum HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience with mechanical testing and test rigs.
• Ability to produce clear reports and write concisely.
• Good communication and teamwork.
• Familiarity with ISO 17025 is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Carry out physical and performance testing of respiratory products.
• Prepare samples and set up test equipment and rigs.
• Run tests safely, consistently and in line with procedures.
• Record results accurately and maintain traceable test records.
• Write test reports.
• Support routine checks, calibration activities and upkeep of equipment.
• Work in accordance with our quality management system (ISO 17025).
• Contribute to continuous improvement of methods, equipment and ways of working.
