Job summary

Mott MacDonald Bentley is seeking an Engineering Geologist to join our geotechnical team for UK water projects. You will contribute from concept design through to commissioning and work with a distributed team across national framework contracts.

The role involves site visits and close collaboration with design and construction colleagues. You will have a degree in geotechnical engineering or engineering geology (MEng/MSc) and aim for Chartership.

Qualifications

• Degree in geotechnical engineering or engineering geology (MEng/MSc).
• Working towards or achieved Chartership through a relevant Institution (ICE/IOM3/GeolSoc).
• Strong engineering geology and geotechnical design competencies, ideally in the water/wastewater sector.
• Experience in the field of ground engineering in the UK, with a full understanding of the geotechnical lifecycle of construction projects.
• Previous experience undertaking project desk studies, identifying key ground risks, planning and supervising ground investigations, developing ground models, undertaking ground interpretation and delivering elements of geotechnical design.
• A valid driving licence and willingness to travel to sites.

Responsibilities

• Undertaking geotechnical desk studies, design of ground investigations, tender documentation and contract administration.
• Supervising ground investigation fieldworks and liaising with contractors.
• Interpreting and verifying ground investigation data and developing geotechnical design parameters.
• Producing ground investigation and geotechnical design reports in accordance with EC7.
• Communicating project ground risks and mitigation to non-specialist teams.
• Producing calculation packages, input to works specifications and drawings for construction.
• Contributing to design standards and client/industry expectations.
• Challenging Client specifications and defending solutions to complex problems.
• Identifying opportunities to improve delivery processes and introduce standard designs and digital tools.
• Acting as technical checker on project documents and conducting technical reviews.
• Mentoring Graduates and Engineers to build capability.
• Carrying out site reviews to ensure buildability and integration with existing systems.
