Job summary

Stantec is growing its geoarchaeology capability and seeks an early-career Geoarchaeological Consultant to join our archaeology and heritage team of over 30 professionals. This is a role with a genuine structured pathway, mentorship and varied hands-on experience for a long career.

You will support delivery across assessment, reporting, fieldwork and data interpretation, developing towards independent practice under the guidance of our Geoarchaeology Lead.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Archaeology, Geography, Geology, Earth Sciences or related discipline.
• Master’s in Geoarchaeology, Environmental Archaeology, Quaternary Science, Geomorphology or related subject preferred though not essential.
• Dissertation, research, placement, or field experience in geoarchaeology, environmental archaeology, Quaternary science, or sedimentary analysis.
• Genuine interest in buried landscape reconstruction and Quaternary environments.
• Organised, curious and keen to learn; mentoring and knowledge-sharing mindset.

Responsibilities

• Compile and review geological, geomorphological, geotechnical, archaeological and environmental datasets; assist in assessments and deposit models.
• Prepare figures, GIS outputs, plans and tables; draft factual and interpretative sections of technical reports.
• Attend site visits and ground investigations; record sediments, soils and stratigraphic sequences; compile field records and photographs.
• Contribute to data management and digital outputs, including GIS-based information and digital mapping; explore AI-enabled geoarchaeological assessment approaches.
• Full UK driving licence required or to be obtained during probation.
