Job summary

The European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL- Hinxton) is seeking a Laboratory Officer to coordinate daily lab activities and support research projects within the Genome Biology Unit. You will contribute to experimental workflows, manage stocks and budgets, and mentor students and visiting researchers.

Requirements include a Master’s or PhD in life sciences, hands-on lab management experience, molecular biology and mammalian cell culture expertise, and excellent English communication.

Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in life science required.
• Proven experience in day-to-day management and operations of a laboratory.
• Expertise in molecular biology and mammalian cell culture.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Responsibilities

• Coordinating day-to-day laboratory activities and providing hands-on support.
• Assisting lab members with experiments and troubleshooting.
• Coordinating quality control and benchmarking of reagents and workflows, including NGS.
• Managing laboratory stocks, budgets, equipment and resources.
• Maintaining laboratory organisation.
• Training new group members and mentoring students.
