Job summary

Qualifications

• Education: A degree in Life Sciences, Chemistry, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience in a lab).
• Lab Background: Previous experience working in a laboratory environment with some responsibility for day-to-day operations.
• Safety Awareness: A good understanding of basic UK health and safety rules (such as COSHH).
• Financial Basics: Experience tracking expenses or ordering lab supplies and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory tasks related to Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS), including but not limited to: Library preparation and Sequencer operation.
• Carry out genotyping workflows: Sample spotting and preparation, PCR amplification and optimization, and fluorescence-based detection and analysis.
• Carry out routine laboratory activities such as setup and maintenance of equipment, preparation of testing solutions, and daily cleaning and housekeeping activities.
• Monitoring reagent and consumable stock levels and timely restocking to avoid disruptions.
• Accurate tracking of stock movements, including in-stock and out-stock documentation.
• Perform DNA extraction from various sample types with high accuracy.
• Prepare libraries for sequencing, including quality control and quantification.
• Conduct hybridization and enrichment procedures as required.
• Operate sequencing platforms (e.g., Illumina, BGI) and ensure data quality control.

We are seeking an experienced Laboratory Operations Manager to oversee the daily management of our laboratory facilities in the UK. This role encompasses operational excellence, regulatory compliance, health and safety management, client liaison, and team development. The successful candidate will ensure our laboratory operates efficiently, safely, and in full compliance with UK regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Perform laboratory tasks related to Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS), including but not limited to:

Library preparation

Sequencer operation
