Job summary

Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a permanent Consultant in General and Upper GI Surgery, based in Bradford. The post focuses on bariatric and benign upper GI conditions, with access to robotic surgery and a mix of elective and emergency cases.

Ten PAs per week and a broad surgical remit offer opportunities to lead and develop a robotic practice. The role requires UK medical qualifications, GMC registration, and involvement in on-call duties within an established NHS

Qualifications

• Essential qualifications include MBChB or equivalent, and GMC registration.

Responsibilities

• Deliver specialist general and upper GI surgical consultations, assessments and treatments.
• Perform bariatric and metabolic surgery, including weight-loss procedures.
• Manage complex hiatal conditions and benign biliary surgical cases.
• Undertake advanced laparoscopic surgery.
• Provide outpatient consultations for a wide range of surgical conditions.
• Triage and investigate urgent and fast-track referrals.
• Participate in upper GI endoscopy services and maintain accreditation.
• Contribute to the general surgical on-call rota, currently one in 14.
• Lead the surgical assessment unit and assess, triage and treat acute surgical referrals during on-call periods.
• Participate in emergency operating lists (CEPOD) and weekday urgent surgical clinics.
• Manage general surgical conditions affecting both the upper and lower GI tract.
• Collaborate with colleagues to maintain high standards of patient care and service delivery.
