Job summary

Practice Plus Group's Health in Justice team seeks a General Practitioner to join the Primary Care team at HMP Altcourse in Fazakerley, Liverpool. The role focuses on fast‑paced clinical care for a diverse patient group with experience in substance‑misuse support.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high‑quality care, participate in governance, and access bespoke development opportunities. GMC‑registered GPs with CPD in Substance Misuse are preferred.

Qualifications

• MBChB or MBBS qualification required.
• Inclusion on the GMC Register and GP Performers List is essential.
• Evidence of engagement with annual appraisal.
• Experience working as a GP in community general practice.
• Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development.
• Ability to work with patients with a history of substance misuse.
• RCGP Certificate in Substance Misuse 1 and 2, or willingness to undertake these qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Deliver first‑class healthcare to a diverse patient group at a prison setting.
• Provide clinical assessment, diagnosis and informed management decisions.
• Act as a specialist resource to the wider healthcare team and contribute to clinical governance.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a General Practitioner to join our Primary Care team at HMP Altcourse, a Category B men’s prison and young offenders institution located in the Fazakerley area of Liverpool, Merseyside. Ideal applicants are experienced GPs who have previously prescribed and supported patients with substance‑misuse needs. The role is fast‑paced and involves working closely with a full multidisciplinary team to deliver high‑quality patient care.

Hours

We offer flexible working and are happy to discuss individual days or a combination of days to suit your needs.

• Monday: 08:00 – 21:00
• Tuesday: 17:00 – 21:00
• Thursday: 08:00 – 21:00
• Friday: 14:00 – 18:00

Salary

You’ll receive an annual salary between £114,763 and £125,135 per annum (FTE), depending on experience.

• Deliver first‑class healthcare to a diverse group of patients and further develop your knowledge in areas usually not encountered in general practice or an A&E environment.
• Provide clinical assessment and diagnosis, and make timely decisions regarding future management.
• Act as a highly specialist resource to other members of the healthcare team on site and engage actively in clinical governance and effectiveness activities.
