Job summary

Health in Justice is seeking a General Practitioner to join the prison healthcare team at HMP Lewes in East Sussex, delivering care to adult male patients with a range of needs.

This part-time role (8 hours per week) offers an annual salary up to £125,692 FTE, with induction and professional development support.

Qualifications

  • MBChB or MBBS on the GMC Register and GP Performers List.
  • Evidence of engagement with annual appraisal.
  • Experience working as a General Practitioner in community general practice.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Ability to work with patients with a history of substance misuse.
  • RCGP Certificate in Substance Misuse 1 and 2, or prepared to undertake these qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver first‑class healthcare to a diverse group of patients; as a practitioner in the Practice Plus Group you get the opportunity to further develop your knowledge within an area you would not usually experience, or even in an A&E environment.
  • Provide clinical assessment and diagnosis to meet patients’ requirements and make timely decisions regarding future management.
  • Provide a highly specialist resource to other members of the healthcare team at site, and to patients you work with, having active involvement in clinical governance and effectiveness activities.

Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a General Practitioner to join our healthcare team at HMP Lewes, a category B remand prison based in Lewes, East Sussex. HMP Lewes has a fast‑paced healthcare environment delivering care to males aged 18‑65 years with a range of needs including substance misuse and long‑term conditions. Within this role you will be working closely with our senior nurses to deliver reception care, which includes first‑night prescribing, discharge prescribing, urgent follow up for duty doctor and substance‑misuse prescribing.

Mondays – 8:30 – 16:30

This position is part‑time, working 8 hours per week.

Salary

You will receive an annual salary up to £125,692 per annum FTE – depending on experience.
