Job summary

Laing O’Rourke in Barnby Dun is seeking a reliable labourer to support depot operations. You will assist with loading and unloading tools, equipment and materials, and operate site machinery safely under instruction.

A focus on teamwork, health and safety, and accurate following of written and verbal instructions is essential. Basic training will be provided for required equipment; CSCS is preferred but not essential.

Qualifications

  • Support skilled operatives, supervisors and engineers with day-to-day tasks.
  • Follow instructions accurately, verbally and in writing.
  • Report hazards, damage or faults to supervisors.
  • Handle materials and equipment safely, including manual handling of large items.
  • Work as part of a team to meet project schedules and targets.
  • Assist other departments within the depot to maintain workflow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, tidy, and organised work area, adhering to all Health, Safety & Environmental standards.
  • Support skilled operatives, supervisors, and engineers with day‑to‑day tasks as required.
  • Follow instructions accurately, both verbally and in written form.
  • Report any hazards, damage, or equipment faults promptly to supervisors.
  • Handle materials and equipment safely, including manual handling tasks associated with large or heavy items.
  • Work as part of a team to help meet project schedules and operational targets.
  • Assist other departments within the depot when required to maintain workflow and productivity.
Key Skills
  • Experience working in a construction, industrial, or depot environment (preferred but not essential).
  • Ability to work safely with tools, equipment, and machinery (training provided where necessary).
  • Strong teamwork skills with the ability to communicate clearly and follow instructions.
  • Good awareness of health and safety requirements and safe working practices.
  • Physically capable of manual handling tasks and manoeuvring materials or equipment.
  • Basic understanding of site operations and willingness to learn new skills and processes.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to keep work areas clean and orderly.
Qualifications
  • CSCS card (preferred but not essential).
  • Any relevant training certificates (manual handling, abrasive wheels, etc.) are beneficial.
Additional Requirements
  • Willingness to undertake additional training as required for the role.
  • Forklift or lifting‑equipment experience would be an advantage.
  • Reliable, punctual, and safety‑focused approach to work.
