General Manager - Engineering Operations

Our Client has established itself as a market leader in precision engineering, fabrication, laser cutting, and specialist manufacturing services. With nearly 50 years of engineering excellence, they continue to progress as a company.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join one of the UK's leading engineering and manufacturing organisations, as General Manager based in the Midlands.

JOB PURPOSE

As General Manager, you will assume full P&L responsibility the Division, overseeing day-to-day operations while reporting directly to the Managing Director. You will lead a skilled workforce and be accountable for delivering operational efficiency, financial performance, customer satisfaction, and strategic development across the division.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee daily operations to ensure optimum productivity, quality, and safety standards are maintained across all manufacturing activities.
  • Develop and implement strategic initiatives to drive growth, operational improvement, and continuous innovation.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage departmental leaders and frontline teams, ensuring effective recruitment, development, performance management, and succession planning.
  • Take ownership of divisional P&L, budget control, and financial forecasting, ensuring profitability targets are consistently achieved and exceeded.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

We are seeking a highly motivated and commercially astute senior leader who brings a blend of hands-on, operational expertise, and people leadership. You'll be comfortable navigating complex environments and driving performance with confidence and clarity.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Extensive senior management experience in engineering and manufacturing, ideally within metal-work, fabrication and welding.
  • Strong track record of operational leadership, with demonstrable success in delivering financial growth and sustained business performance.
  • Deep understanding of engineering production environments, lean manufacturing practices, and quality control systems.
  • Commercially and financially aware, with experience in managing full P&L.
  • Inspirational leadership style with a hands-on approach, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to build strong cross-functional teams.
