General Maintenance Operative
We are looking for a proactive and skilled General Maintenance Operative to join our Facilities team. The successful candidate will support the day-to-day maintenance and smooth running of our client's site, ensuring a safe, well-maintained, and operational environment at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out general planned and reactive maintenance across the site.
- Complete daily work orders within agreed timeframes and according to SLA requirements.
- Maintain accurate logs of completed and outstanding work using the site's maintenance system.
- Assist with small installation works, repairs, and general handyman duties.
- Support the safe management and escorting of contractors, ensuring adherence to all site safety standards.
- Identify maintenance issues and escalate them appropriately to supervisors or management.
- Participate in safety and technical training as required.
- Provide cover for colleagues during holidays, training, or absence.
- Conduct basic condition assessments of equipment and report any issues.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory, company, and client safety procedures.
- Assist with sourcing materials and supplies for maintenance activities.
- Maintain clear communication with the client and management team, including reporting incidents or out-of-line situations.
Experience, Qualifications & Skills
- Experience in a maintenance, building services, or facilities support role.
- Basic understanding of electrical, mechanical, or building systems (formal qualifications desirable but not essential).
- Ability to work independently with a flexible, hands-on approach.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
- Good understanding of health & safety and permit-to-work systems (training can be provided).
- Ability to read basic technical drawings is an advantage.
- Basic IT skills and ability to use maintenance systems (training provided).
Accountabilities
- Reports to the Site Supervisor or Contract Manager.
- No direct line management responsibilities.
- Responsible for maintaining appropriate stock levels of tools, consumables, and materials.
