Job summary

SIPS Education Catering Services are looking to recruit dedicated General Kitchen Assistants to ensure smooth running of school kitchens across Sandwell, Dudley and Birmingham areas. Under the Unit Supervisor, you will assist with menus, recipes, and hygiene procedures, on a 10-hour, Monday–Friday, term-time contract. The post is Band 2 SCP 1 with an actual salary of £5,786–£5,888 p.a.

(£12.71 per hour). Closing date 25 September 2026; shortlisting 28 September; interviews 7 October.

Qualifications

• Experience in school catering is desirable.
• Awareness of Food Hygiene and Health & Safety regulations.

• Assist with preparation and serving of menu items.
• Serve customers and help with food choices.
• Wash up and clean kitchen and dining areas; clear and reset after meals.
• Support training of new staff and deputise for the Unit Manager when needed.
• Attend training during term time or school holidays.

SIPS Education Catering Services are looking to recruit dedicated General Kitchen Assistants to ensure the smooth running of school kitchens across Sandwell, Dudley and Birmingham areas.

Under the direction of the Unit Supervisor to assist and participate in adhering to menus, recipes and written procedures. The post is a 10-hour Monday – Friday term-time contract

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Under the direction of the Unit Manager to assist and participate in adhering to menus, recipes and written procedures. Assist with preparation and serving of menu items
• Serving and assisting customers with food choices
• Washing up kitchen and dining equipment, cleaning of equipment and premises. Setting up and cleaning dining areas before and after meals, moving furniture as necessary
• Working within Food Hygiene Regulations and Health and Safety regulations
• Assist in the training of new staff
• To deputise for the Unit Manager where applicable, once full training has been completed.
• Periodic attendance at training courses during term time / school holidays /closures, as required.
