Job summary

Amey is recruiting a General Building Operative to join the on-site facilities team at HMP Long Lartin. You will work in a small team delivering general maintenance tasks and supporting tradespeople, with 39 hours per week and a 1 in 3 weekend on rota.

Base salary is £28,792 per year, with a 15% additional allowance on weekends. You will bring solid DIY/general maintenance experience, a CITB certification or equivalent, and a willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Work in a team to provide general maintenance tasks and support tradespeople on site.
• Provide professional assistance to those requesting support, including contractor escorting duties when required.
• Complete tasks associated with DIY such as decorating, hanging notice boards, building furniture, and repairing items around the prison.
• Check appliances, fittings and general environment for good working order and report defects to the Team Leader.
• Maintain general housekeeping, including litter picking and landscaping around the grounds if required.
• Perform all other FM duties directed by the team manager.
• Support local and business zero‑carbon programmes, working towards zero carbon in a strategic and lean manner where appropriate.
• Ensure H&S standards are achieved across the contract.
