Job summary

Amey is offering an on-site Carpenter/Joiner role at HMP Onley. The position covers 39 hours weekly in a weekend-shift pattern (1 in 3 weekends) with a 15% weekend allowance on basic salary. You will be involved in planned and reactive maintenance within prisons, ensuring safety, compliance and timely delivery.

You will perform joinery tasks, manage workshop activities, plan daily work with supervision, measure, quote, order materials and support carbon-reduction initiatives as required.

Qualifications

  • Level 2 or 3 in Joinery & Carpentry.
  • Manual tool handling.
  • Ladder use.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure H&S standards across the contract.
  • Carry out joinery work (doors, windows, formwork, timber items).
  • Maintain joinery workshop, machines, inspections, housekeeping.
  • Plan daily work with supervisor and record details on works orders.
  • Measure and quote for works.
  • Order materials and maintain stock of building materials.
  • Support zero carbon programmes where appropriate.
  • Handle other reasonable requests from line manager.

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for an on-site Carpenter/ Joiner in HMP Onley.

The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week, across 7 days as a weekend shift pattern is in place, covering 1 in 3 weekends. There is a need to work some weekends on a rota basis and with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary.

At Amey, we’re supporting our justice client, His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) by providing them with safe, clean and efficient prisons.

By using our facilities management expertise, we help keep 60 secure premises across England and Wales running smoothly.

The Carpenter & Joiner plays an important part in ensuring the planned and reactive maintenance work within the prisons is carried out in a safe, compliant and timely manner.

What You Will Do
  • Responsible for ensuring H&S standards are achieved across the contract.
  • Carry out joinery work to include repairing of doors, windows, signposts, formwork, and other bespoke timber items.
  • Responsible for joinery workshop - maintenance of machines, statutory inspections, housekeeping, and cleanliness.
  • Organise and plan your daily work with the supervisor, to record and submit all details of work carried out on relevant works orders.
  • Measure and quote for works.
  • Order materials.
  • Maintain stock of Building Maintenance material.
  • Support both local and business zero carbon programmes, working towards zero carbon in a strategic and lean manner as and where it is appropriate.
  • Handle all other reasonable requests as determined by your line manager.
