Job summary

Chesterfield Borough Council is seeking a Gas Workforce Manager to lead a team responsible for gas repairs, servicing and compliance across the housing stock. You will manage a team of approximately 15 engineers, supported by a planner and administrator, ensuring high performance with a strong focus on safety and customer outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Significant management experience or a recognised management qualification.
  • Degree-level qualification in a relevant discipline, or 5+ years’ senior operational experience within gas compliance, social housing or building services.
  • ACS certification (CCN1 and relevant modules) and Gas Safe registration requirements.
  • A health and safety qualification, such as IOSH Working Safely or equivalent.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Experience in a social housing/local authority environment would be advantageous but is not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, motivate and support a team of gas engineers to deliver high performance and customer outcomes.
  • Create a positive employee experience through effective communication and visible leadership.
  • Manage performance, conduct and attendance with a fair, supportive approach.
  • Identify and support learning and development needs for staff qualifications.
  • Plan and deploy workforce resources to meet service demands across repairs, compliance and capital programmes.
  • Drive a high-performance culture and address performance issues constructively.
  • Lead workforce planning, recruitment, succession planning and retention initiatives.
  • Collaborate with HR, Trade Unions and wider service teams to resolve issues and improve service delivery.
  • Manage staffing budgets and ensure value for money.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives and the use of digital tools to enhance productivity.
