Job summary

Islington Council is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead and develop the in-house Domestic Gas Engineers, ensuring safety checks, repairs, installations and emergency services meet high standards. You will report to the Gas Operations Manager and oversee both in-house and contractor services to maintain compliance with Gas Safety regulations.

Key duties include leading the gas operatives, managing out-of-hours emergency gas services, developing training, and ensuring ongoing compliance

Qualifications

• Lead and manage the in-house gas operatives team to deliver safe, efficient gas services.

Responsibilities

• Oversee out-of-hours emergency gas services using internal staff, agency workers, and contractors.
• Develop and deliver training to maintain staff competence and resident safety.
• Contribute to the creation and revision of gas safety policies and procedures in line with legal and regulatory standards.
• Conduct health and safety inspections, risk assessments (including COSHH), and implement corrective actions.
