Job summary

Greater Anglia at Ipswich Station is preparing for future Platform Host (Train Dispatcher) opportunities. Successful applicants will be placed in our Talent Bank for up to six months and may be offered a role when suitable vacancies arise.

Positions may be Static or Relief, full-time or part-time, with shifts including early starts, weekends and bank holidays. Training includes a 5-day Dispatch course at Stratford Academy and a safety-critical medical assessment.

  • Maintain and deliver top-notch customer service in a fast-paced environment.
  • Provide support to mobility/ visually impaired customers and assist boarding/alighting from trains.
  • Deploy station ramps, provide luggage assistance, and support passengers with wheelchairs.
  • Collaborate with Drivers and Conductors to ensure smooth communication and service.
  • Comply with safety regulations and report faults and hazards; participate in dispatch activities.
  • Collaborate with other areas of the business to ensure operational efficiency during disruptions.

Description

We are currently forward planning for future roles that may become available as a Platform Host (Train Dispatcher). If you are successful in your application, you will be placed in our Talent Bank for up to six months. If a suitable opportunity becomes available during that time, you may be offered a role.

Positions may be available as Static or Relief roles, on either a full-time or part-time basis. Static roles offer a consistent shift pattern, giving you visibility of your shifts for the full year. Relief roles provide flexibility, with weekly rosters issued one week before the shift.

Please note that we are unable to accept your application if you do not meet the following criteria:

  • You will be working an average of 35 hours per week. This role is shift-based and includes early starts, late finishes, weekends, and bank holiday working. Earliest shift starts from 0600 and latest finish 2315, with additional night shift working required.
  • You must be able to arrange your own transport to ensure timely arrival for early and late shifts.
  • You should be prepared to work in all weather conditions and requires regular movement around stations.
  • Applicants must be over 18 years of age
  • This role includes a compulsory 5-day Dispatch training course at our Stratford Academy, followed by a final assessment.
  • Employment is subject to satisfactory Right to Work checks, a DBS check, and a safety‑critical medical assessment.
  • Starting salary £25,051 rising at 12 months to £25,435.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deploy station ramps, provide luggage assistance, and support passengers with the use of station wheelchairs
  • Collaborate with Drivers and Conductors to ensure smooth communication and service.
  • Comply with safety regulations, reporting faults and hazards as necessary, as you will be responsible for the safe and punctual dispatch of trains. You’ll be invited to a 5-day Dispatch course
  • Collaborate with other areas of the business when required to ensure operational efficiency, whilst providing support and assistance to customers during disruption
