Job summary

John Kemp Funeral Directors in Herne Bay, Kent, is seeking a Funeral Service Specialist to lead day-to-day branch operations, support families with empathy, and guide them through funeral plans. You will build local relationships, coordinate ceremonies, and promote our funeral plan services while meeting legal requirements.

The role offers full training, weekend/on-call flexibility, and the chance to contribute to community-focused services in a compassionate environment.

Qualifications

• Empathy and calmness in emotionally sensitive situations.
• Experience in customer service or admin is beneficial; training provided.
• Strong communication and organisational skills; able to handle legal paperwork.
• PC literate with Microsoft Office and internal systems; training available.
• Able to work independently with branch-level responsibility; weekend/on-call flexibility.
• Full UK Driving Licence is desirable for visiting client homes and branches.

Responsibilities

• Support families with empathy, professionalism and attention to detail.
• Arrange funerals meeting family wishes and legal requirements with clarity and compassion.
• Oversee day-to-day branch operations, including administration and presentation.
• Build relationships with suppliers, care homes and local groups including ministers, celebrants and florists.
• Lead chapel visits as required and assist with ceremonial duties during peak times.
• Raise awareness of funeral plans and contribute to plan sales within the branch.
