Job summary

Co-op Funeralcare in Polegate is seeking a Funeral Service Crew member on a 12-month fixed-term contract. You’ll work 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8:30am-4:30pm, with an on-call rota including evenings and weekends.

Full training provided; no prior funeral industry experience is required. You’ll assist with preparation, transportation and care of the deceased, delivering service with professionalism, dignity and respect while benefiting from competitive salary and Co-op perks.

Qualifications

• Full UK manual driving licence required.
• Ability to perform physical aspects of the role (manual lifting).
• Good IT skills and ability to use devices and systems.
• Ability to react calmly and compassionately in emotional circumstances.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy to follow policies.

Responsibilities

• Collect the deceased from a range of locations in a professional and empathetic manner.
• Bear coffins on the day of the funeral and drive funeral vehicles.
• Maintain the cleanliness of equipment and facilities, including vehicles.
• Prepare coffins and engrave name plates.
• Prepare the deceased in our care for viewings and the funeral.
• Maintain client management applications daily with timely, detailed records.
• Safely lift, carry and move coffins using safe techniques and equipment.
