Job summary

Prospero Teaching is recruiting for a Functional Skills Maths Tutor to provide personalised 1:1 tuition in Wigan. You will support learners with their numeracy and Maths education, helping them build essential skills and work towards Functional Skills qualifications.

The role offers 5-15 hours per week with an ongoing start from September 2026. Applicants should have experience delivering Functional Skills Maths, strong numeracy knowledge, and a patient, flexible teaching approach.

Prospero Teaching are recruiting Functional Skills Maths Tutors to provide personalised tuition across Wigan!

The Opportunity

We are seeking experienced Functional Skills Maths Tutors to work on a 1:1 basis with learners who require additional support with their numeracy and Maths education.

You will help learners develop essential mathematical skills and work towards their Functional Skills qualifications, adapting sessions around their individual starting point and goals.

Experience, Training and Qualifications

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• Experience delivering Functional Skills Maths
• Strong Maths and numeracy subject knowledge
• Previous teaching or tutoring experience
• Experience supporting learners with gaps in education
• QTS, PGCE or equivalent desirable
• A patient and flexible teaching style

To be eligible for this role, you must:

• Hold the Right to Work in the UK
• Hold an enhanced DBS certificate registered with the Update Service or be willing to obtain a new application
