Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking experienced Functional Skills Maths Tutors to deliver personalised, 1:1 tuition in Wigan. You will support learners aiming to achieve their Functional Skills qualifications, adapting sessions to each learner's starting point and goals.

Role is part-time, 5–15 hours per week, starting September 2026, with ongoing availability. The ideal candidate will have strong maths knowledge, teaching or tutoring experience, and a patient, flexible approach.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering Functional Skills Maths.
• Strong Maths and numeracy knowledge.
• Previous teaching or tutoring experience.
• Experience supporting learners with gaps in education.

Prospero Teaching are recruiting Functional Skills Maths Tutors to provide personalised tuition across Wigan!

The Opportunity

We are seeking experienced Functional Skills Maths Tutors to work on a 1:1 basis with learners who require additional support with their numeracy and Maths education.

You will help learners develop essential mathematical skills and work towards their Functional Skills qualifications, adapting sessions around their individual starting point and goals.

Experience, Training and Qualifications

• The successful candidate will ideally have:
• Experience delivering Functional Skills Maths
• Strong Maths and numeracy subject knowledge
• Previous teaching or tutoring experience
• Experience supporting learners with gaps in education
• QTS, PGCE or equivalent desirable
• A patient and flexible teaching style

To be eligible for this role, you must:

• Hold the Right to Work in the UK
• Hold an enhanced DBS certificate registered with the Update Service or be willing to obtain a new application
