Qualifications

• Hold an appropriate teaching qualification or be willing to work towards one.

The vacancy

Are you passionate about helping learners develop the English skills they need to succeed in education, work and everyday life? We are looking for a Functional Skills English Lecturer to join our team in Doncaster and play a key role in supporting further education students to achieve their goals.

In this role, you will teach Functional Skills English from Entry Level to Level 1 across a range of further education programmes. You will create engaging learning experiences, support learners with their individual needs, and contribute to high-quality learning and teaching across the curriculum. Alongside delivering inspiring lessons, you will help develop learning materials, assess learner progress, maintain accurate records and contribute to curriculum development and quality assurance activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver Functional Skills English teaching to further education learners from Entry Level to Level 1.
• Plan and prepare engaging lessons, learning materials and schemes of learning.
• Assess, mark and provide feedback on learner work to support progress and achievement.
• Use appropriate assessment methods to monitor learner development and inform future planning.
• Create and maintain a supportive classroom environment that meets individual learner needs.
• Contribute to curriculum development and the ongoing improvement of English provision.
• Support quality assurance activities, course verification and course leadership responsibilities where appropriate.
• Provide guidance, coaching and support to learners throughout their programme.
• Maintain accurate records of learner activity, achievement and progress.
• Participate in professional development, appraisal activities and wider departmental initiatives.

Essential Criteria

• Hold an appropriate teaching qualification, have substantial industrial experience, or be willing to work towards a teaching qualification if currently unqualified.
• Demonstrate experience of delivering Functional Skills English at Entry Levels.
• Have experience within a lecturing or training role in a further education or secondary school environment.
• Hold GCSE English and Mathematics at grade 4/C or above (or equivalent) and a relevant degree or equivalent professional qualification at Level 3 associated with mathematics.
• Demonstrate effective lesson planning and delivery skills, together with knowledge of innovative learning and teaching techniques.

Desirable Criteria

• Experience of delivering Functional Skills English from Entry Level 1 through to Levels 1 and 2 for re-sit students within a UK further education setting.
• Knowledge and understanding of internal quality processes and procedures.

Employment Details

• Salary: £33,787 to £42,766 (Grade 5)
• Contract Type: Permanent
• Hours: 35.5 hours per week
• Working Weeks: 52 weeks per year
• Location: Doncaster
• Reporting Line: Curriculum Lead for Functional Skills

Core Working Hours:

Our core working hours are 8:30am to 5:00pm Monday to Thursday and 8:30am to 4:00pm on Friday. The standard full-time working week is 35.5 hours, and flexibility around working patterns may be agreed with your line manager to meet business needs.
