Job summary

Luton Borough Council is seeking a Housing Solutions Officer to join the housing team in Luton. You will assess housing needs and eligibility, manage a caseload, and make timely, legally sound decisions under the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and related housing legislation.

You will work with customers to identify causes of homelessness, develop personalised housing plans, coordinate referrals and emergency accommodation when required.

Qualifications

• Experience in managing complex housing or homelessness casework.
• Strong knowledge of homelessness legislation (Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, Housing Act 1996).
• Excellent written and verbal communication; interviewing, correspondence, and reporting.
• Ability to travel as required and participate in out-of-hours service.

Responsibilities

• Provide a proactive, customer-focused service to homeless households.
• Assess housing needs and eligibility; manage a caseload and make timely decisions.
• Coordinate referrals to housing and support services; arrange emergency accommodation when needed.
• Maintain case records, prepare decision letters, reports and respond to reviews.
