Job summary

Sheffield City Council is seeking an Environmental Services Assistant to deliver frontline environmental services across the city. The role requires working 37 hours per week in a diverse, on‑the‑ground environment, with duties that include property clearances, incident response and cleansing tasks.

You will operate in partnership with other council services and communities, recording data via mobile tools and complying with safety standards.

Qualifications

• Works well in a team and also independently.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Self-motivated and able to prioritise workloads.
• Demonstrates a strong commitment to health and safety.
• Can work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Physically fit and able to lift, move and carry bulky items safely.
• Holds a full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Internal and external property clearances.
• Respond to environmental incidents including fly-tipping and hazardous materials.
• Cleaning, cleansing and disinfection of contaminated premises and items.
• Vegetation reduction and removal in public and private settings.
• Accurately recording information and completing work records using mobile technology.
• Driving Council vehicles and performing daily vehicle safety checks.
