Job summary

Carrington Blake Recruitment is seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Environmental Services Technician to join the Local Services team. You will assist with street cleansing, grounds maintenance and other outdoor duties across the city.

This physically demanding role requires flexibility, teamwork and a commitment to Health & Safety. No prior experience is required as full training is provided.

The role offers 37 hours per week, over a 7-day period, with shifts to be confirmed.

Qualifications

  • Follow instructions, policies and procedures.

  • Physically capable of carrying out manual and outdoor work.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out street cleansing duties, including litter picking and clearing waste.
  • Empty street litter bins and dog waste bins.
  • Assist with the clearance of fly-tipping and other waste.
  • Undertake grounds maintenance duties, including grass cutting, strimming, pruning and planting.
  • Assist with snow clearing and gritting when required.
  • Use basic tools and equipment safely and effectively.
  • Complete pre-use checks on equipment and report any faults or defects.
  • Record completed tasks, faults and on-site issues accurately using handheld devices.
  • Follow all Health & Safety policies, procedures and relevant legislation.
  • Report any problems or issues to the Team Leader promptly.
  • Work at different locations as required.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and respond to straightforward queries from members of the public.
  • Work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.

Assistant Environmental Services Technician

Service: Environmental Services – Local Services

Job Purpose

We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Assistant Environmental Services Technician to join the Local Services team. You will help maintain and improve environmental standards across the city by carrying out a range of street cleansing and grounds maintenance duties.

This is a physically demanding outdoor role, requiring flexibility, a strong work ethic and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

No previous experience is essential, as full training will be provided. However, experience within street cleansing, grounds maintenance, gardening, landscaping or other outdoor/manual roles would be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out street cleansing duties, including litter picking and clearing waste.

Candidate Requirements

The successful candidate will:

  • Be willing to use handheld ICT devices or learn how to use them.
  • Be reliable, flexible and have a positive attitude.
Working Hours

The role is 37 hours per week, worked over a 7-day period. Shift patterns are to be confirmed, and candidates must be flexible to meet the needs of the service.

Additional Information

The role involves frequent lifting and carrying of moderately heavy equipment and requires the successful candidate to wear appropriate PPE.

You may occasionally work alone and will also be expected to work as part of a wider team.

Training will be provided, and no previous experience is essential.
