DSV – Global transport and logistics in Harwich seeks a proactive Cross Trade & Dedicated Transport Operator to join the International Operations Team. The role covers bookings, cross-trade and dedicated transports, ensuring smooth delivery and continuous coverage during peak periods.

You will build strong customer relationships, handle quotations, monitor shipments and support customs, with a focus on accuracy, compliance and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Experience within transport, logistics, freight forwarding, or customer service.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage a busy workload.
• Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
• Experience with European transport operations is desirable.
• Understanding of customs processes is advantageous.
• Good IT skills and experience with transport management systems.
• High attention to detail and robust administrative skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage part load and full load cross-trade shipments across Europe and related movements.
• Accept and process customer bookings accurately and efficiently.
• Monitor shipments proactively and resolve exceptions to delivery.
• Communicate with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders; provide updates.
• Prepare quotations and support commercial objectives; ensure compliance and records.

Cross Trade & Dedicated Transport Operator

Harwich

Monday to Friday

DSV are looking for a pro-active, positive and customer-focused Cross Trade & Dedicated Transport Operator to join our International Operations Team. This is a varied role that provides operational support across our Cross Trade and Dedicated Transport activities, helping to ensure continuity during annual leave, absence cover, peak trading periods, and increased workload volumes.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities, building strong customer relationships, and taking ownership of shipments from quotation through to successful delivery.

As part of a team currently operating through a period of growth and integration, we are looking for someone who embraces change, remains positive under pressure, and is willing to support colleagues and contribute to continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Operations

• Manage part load and full load cross-trade shipments across Europe, alongside dedicated transport and van movements.
• Accept and process customer bookings accurately and efficiently.
• Monitor shipments proactively and manage exceptions through to resolution.
• Communicate and build relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
• Ensure PODs, IODs, invoices, and supplier costs are completed accurately and within required timelines.

Customer Service

• Deliver outstanding customer service through proactive communication.
• Provide event updates throughout the shipment lifecycle, including:
• Collection confirmations
• In-transit updates
• Delivery updates
• Delay notifications
• Manage customer queries and resolve operational issues promptly and professionally.

Quoting & Commercial Support

• Prepare and provide quotations in line with customer requirements.
• Work closely with suppliers to ensure competitive and profitable solutions.
• Support the team in achieving service and commercial objectives.

Customs & Compliance

• Support customs processes to ensure shipments move compliantly and efficiently.
• Liaise with customers and service providers to obtain required documentation.
• Ensure operational and customs records are maintained accurately.

Team Support

• Provide cover for annual leave, sickness absence, and peak workload periods across the team.
• Demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to support colleagues when operational demands require it.
• Contribute positively to team success and operational performance.

What We’re Looking For

• Experience within transport, logistics, freight forwarding, or customer service.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a busy and changing workload.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Experience working with European transport operations is desirable.
• Understanding of customs processes would be advantageous.
• Ability to solve problems and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
• Good IT skills and experience using transport management systems.
• High attention to detail and strong administrative skills.
