Job description

Job Overview

About The Role

At AO, the numbers matter. Understanding what sits behind them matters even more.
We’re looking for an FP&A Manager to lead our Group forecasting, budgeting and financial planning processes, providing the insight and challenge that helps shape business decisions at the highest level.
This is a pivotal role with responsibility for consolidating and reporting Group performance across multiple business units, ensuring forecasts are robust, assumptions are challenged and the drivers behind performance are clearly understood. Working closely with senior commercial and operational leaders, you’ll become a trusted partner, bringing clarity to complexity and helping stakeholders make confident, informed decisions.
Alongside owning the Group planning cycle, you’ll translate large volumes of financial and operational data into meaningful insight, create board-level reporting and play a key role in shaping AO’s longer-term financial plans. You’ll also lead and develop an FP&A Analyst, helping to strengthen the capability of the wider team.
For someone who enjoys combining technical excellence with commercial influence, this is an opportunity to make a real impact in a fast-paced, growing business.
Our people are our superpower, and we’re unstoppable when we’re together! We want your ideas to flow, and what better way to make that happen than being based onsite in our Bolton office 5 days a week, where our culture fuels creativity, collaboration and growth. If a £1 bet in the pub between two friends can become the UKs most trusted electrical retailer, imagine what else can be achieved when we’re together.
Here's What You Can Expect To Be Doing

  • Owning the Group forecasting and budgeting process, ensuring plans are robust, evidence-based and aligned to business objectives
  • Leading the consolidation of Group P&Ls, balance sheets and cashflows, providing a clear view of performance across AO
  • Driving a deeper understanding of financial and operational performance by identifying and explaining key trends, risks and opportunities
  • Challenging assumptions and improving the quality of forecasts across the business through constructive stakeholder engagement
  • Producing weekly Group forecast reporting and supporting the monthly CFO board report
  • Preparing board-level papers and executive reporting that turn complex information into clear, actionable insight
  • Partnering with senior commercial and operational leaders across the Group to support decision-making
  • Developing financial models, dashboards and KPI reporting that improve visibility and performance management
  • Leading and developing an FP&A Analyst
  • Delivering high-value analysis that supports strategic priorities and business performance
A Few Things About You
  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA)
  • Significant FP&A experience within a large, complex or multi-divisional business
  • Strong technical expertise across forecasting, budgeting, financial planning and Group consolidations
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience building robust financial models and reporting tools
  • Comfortable producing high-quality reporting and presentations for executive and board-level audiences
  • Naturally inquisitive, with a track record of getting beyond the numbers to uncover the real drivers of performance
  • Credible and confident when challenging assumptions and influencing senior stakeholders
  • Strong relationship builder who can operate effectively across a wide range of teams and functions
  • Highly organised with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to deliver at pace
  • Continuously looking for opportunities to improve reporting, automate processes and create better insight
You'll bring a blend of commercial curiosity, analytical rigour and strong stakeholder influence. Most importantly, you'll help AO make better decisions by ensuring we always understand not just what the numbers are telling us, but why.
A Bit About Us
We’re big on appliances and electricals, REALLY big. Washing machines, fridge freezers and TVs? They’re our bread and butter. Mobiles, Airwraps and Ring doorbells? Yep, those too. If it plugs in, powers up or makes life easier, AO probably has it.
But we’re more than that… For over 25 years, trust has been at the heart of everything we do, helping us become the UK’s most trusted electrical retailer. Our customers rate us 4.9 on Trustpilot from nearly ONE MILLION reviews and more 5-star ratings than any other UK electrical retailer, because they know they can rely on us and it’s the exact same for our AOers too.
We truly believe it’s more than just a job, we genuinely care about each other and our impact on making our customers lives easier, by helping them brilliantly. Everyone here knows how their role makes a difference. Our people are our superpower, so, when it comes to finding new AOers, we know it’s more than just a CV, it’s about what makes you, YOU.
