Job Overview

As a certified nurse or paramedic, you can pursue a career within the criminal justice system, providing clinical, forensic, and broader care to detainees. You will work closely with police and healthcare teams, ensuring the safety and health of detainees in custody suites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high‑quality patient‑facing care to detainees in custody suites and across the assigned region.
  • Work under pressure, manage diverse clinical situations and support broader forensic medical duties.
  • Maintain and update patient records and participate in multidisciplinary care planning.
  • Carry out duties in line with the agreed schedule and be flexible across different custody sites.
Qualifications
  • RN, RGN, or RMN with dual registration – minimum 2 years post‑qualification (Band 5 or equivalent).
  • Paramedic – minimum 2 years post‑qualification.
  • Driving licence (UK).
  • Right to work in the UK (British passport or ILR for ≥3 years, no absences >3 months).
  • Subject to police vetting.
  • Experience in A&E, GP, Emergency Medicine, Acute Medicine, prison healthcare or ambulance service.
Working Conditions & Schedule
  • Part‑time fixed shifts: day 06:45–19:00; night 18:45–07:00.
  • Team rota of 2 days on, 8 days off, 2 nights, 4 days off; rolling schedule available 2 years in advance.
  • Full shifts required with some night duties even for part‑time staff.
  • Flexibility to work in base custody suite and across the assigned region.
  • Estimated overtime £3,500 per annum.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary £20,500 per year.
