Job summary

Search Consultancy Ltd is seeking a Freelance Civil Works Foreman for a major car park construction project in Manchester. Start 31st August, running through to Christmas, reporting to the Site Agent and driving day-to-day site activities on a hands-on basis.

You will supervise on-site crews, manage earthworks and drainage, ensure RAMS compliance and maintain high safety standards while ensuring quality and timely delivery.

Qualifications

• Must start 31st August and commit through to Christmas.
• Extensive Civils Foreman/General Foreman UK experience incl. earthworks and drainage.
• Valid CSCS Card (Gold or Supervisor), SMSTS or SSSTS, and First Aid at Work.
• Strong leadership to motivate site teams and resolve on-site challenges quickly.
• Ability to read civil drawings, setting-out data and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Direct and coordinate on-site labour, trades and plant operators to maintain productivity and keep the program on track.
• Oversee daily civil works including earthworks, drainage, foundations and external surfacing.
• Lead RAMS, site rules and PPE adherence; run daily briefings and toolbox talks.
• Check workmanship against engineering and design specs.
• Manage plant utilization and material storage/delivery on site.
• Provide daily progress reports to the Site Agent and flag delays or issues.

About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on, highly driven Freelance Civils Works Foreman to join our team on a major car park construction project in Manchester. Starting on 31st August and running through until Christmas, you will work closely with the Site Agent to drive day-to-day site activities, manage site operatives, and ensure works are executed safely and efficiently on the ground.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervision: Direct and coordinate on-site labour, trades, and plant operators to maintain high productivity and keep the program on track.
• Hands-on Coordination: Oversee daily civil works including earthworks, drainage installation, foundations, and external surfacing.
• Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure all site teams strictly adhere to RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements), site rules, and PPE requirements. Lead daily briefings and toolbox talks.
• Quality Assurance: Check workmanship continually to ensure it meets rigorous engineering and design specifications.
• Plant & Materials: Manage plant utilization on site and coordinate the timely delivery and storage of materials.
• Progress Reporting: Update the Site Agent daily regarding site progress, labour output, and any emerging issues or delays.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Availability: Must be able to start on 31st August and commit to the contract through to Christmas.
• Experience: Extensive experience working as a Civils Foreman or General Foreman within UK construction, with a strong background in earthworks, drainage (car park experience is a distinct advantage).
• Certifications: Valid CSCS Card (Gold or Supervisor), SMSTS or SSSTS, and First Aid at Work.
• Leadership Skills: Strong supervisory background with the ability to motivate site teams and resolve on-site challenges swiftly.
• Technical Knowledge: Excellent ability to read and implement civil engineering drawings, setting-out data, and specifications.
