Job summary

Northbuild Recruitment is seeking an experienced Groundworks Foreman for a large civils project in Manchester. The role calls for hands-on leadership, coordinating groundworks and plant, and ensuring safety and quality across the site.

You will supervise operatives, manage labour and materials, and work closely with site managers, engineers and subcontractors to meet programme targets. A strong civil engineering background and current CSCS/SMSTS credentials are required.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as Groundworks Foreman or Working Foreman.
• Strong background in civil engineering and groundworks projects.
• Valid CSCS card is essential.
• SSSTS or SMSTS qualification is essential.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and lead groundworks and civil engineering teams on site.

We at Northbuild Recruitment are currently seeking to fill the below role for Groundworkers to complete Plot Foundation works on a Large Civils Project in Manchester,

We are seeking an experienced Groundworks Foreman / Working Foreman with a strong Civil Engineering background to join our growing Plant Hire and Civil Engineering team.

This is a hands-on role requiring a motivated individual who can lead site operations while actively participating in groundworks and civil engineering activities.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising operatives, coordinating plant and labour resources, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and lead groundworks and civil engineering teams on site.
• Work alongside site operatives as a hands-on Working Foreman.
• Plan and coordinate daily site activities, labour, plant, and materials.
• Ensure all works are completed in accordance with project specifications, drawings, and programme requirements.
• Maintain high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance.
• Liaise with Site Managers, Engineers, clients, and subcontractors.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Groundworks Foreman or Working Foreman.
• Strong background in Civil Engineering and Groundworks projects.
• Experience managing groundworkers, plant operators, and subcontractors.
• Strong understanding of health and safety regulations.
• Valid CSCS Card (essential).
• SSSTS or SMSTS qualification (essential).
• CPCS/NPORS qualifications advantageous.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Drainage works.
• Foundations and concrete structures.
• Roads and infrastructure projects.
• Utilities and associated civil engineering works.
• Experience working within a Plant Hire Contractor environment.
