Overview
Outstanding Secondary School in Barnet seeks an organised and practical Food Technology graduate or Food Technology specialist to work as a Food Technology Technician, starting in September 2025 on a permanent contract, part time basis.
Salary: £18,659 - £24,568; Permanent contract; September 2025 start; Part time position.
Responsibilities
- Responsible to the Head of Food Technology for the technical service to the Food Technology & Design Faculty.
- Ensure practical needs of the teaching staff are met in accordance with School schemes of learning.
- Work cohesively with a team of Food Technology Technicians.
- Ensure that all Food Technology equipment is well maintained.
- Stocktaking of resources within Food Technology to ensure minimum stock levels.
- Ensure that the Food Technology resource room is well organised, accessible and user friendly.
- Ensure that subject knowledge is up-to-date and relevant training is attended.
- Support wider school activities such as open days, etc.
- Attend faculty meetings to brief staff on new equipment or practical ideas.
- Disposal and arranging for the disposal of waste materials.
- Remain up-to-date with the latest health and safety protocols with regards to hazardous materials.
- Resources: maintain appropriate stock levels of apparatus or materials, stock records and stock checks.
- Placing and progressing orders, ensuring expenditure is in accordance with department policy and checking deliveries.
- Identify equipment needs in consultation with teaching and technician staff and participate in the selection of new items of equipment.
- Organise and store equipment, apparatus and materials in accordance with the Borough's regulations where appropriate.
- Participate in the development of Food Technology & Design Faculty's practical and technical facilities to meet teaching/learning needs.
- Maintain (including repair) and arrange maintenance and repair of Faculty apparatus and equipment.
- Ensure the maintenance of Food Technology & Design services and facilities, liaising with premises staff as appropriate.
- Prepare apparatus, material and set up equipment and apparatus for use in practical classes.
- Set up and, on occasions, carry out demonstrations.
- Retrieve and clean away apparatus after use; construct and modify apparatus as needed.
- Ensure that practical requirements of practical examinations/assessments are met.
- Ensure satisfactory standards of safety and security are maintained in accordance with School/Borough policy.
- Carry out other appropriate technician duties as requested by the Head of Food Technology.
Qualifications/Experience
