Job summary

Hayesfield Girls’ School is seeking a Food Technology Technician to support the DT department. You will set up kitchen spaces, prepare ingredients and equipment for practical lessons, assist students, and ensure high standards of food safety and hygiene.

The role requires confidence with catering equipment, good IT literacy, and physical ability to lift and setup. Experience in school catering is desirable, and COSHH knowledge is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Resource & stock management: Purchase ingredients within budget and maintain stock records.
• Health & safety: Ensure COSHH and Food Hygiene compliance across spaces.
• Maintenance & events: Liaise with site team for equipment repairs and assist with school events.

Food Technology Technician Salary: £27,274-£28,608 per annum, pro rata (Grade 4, SCP 7-10) Actual Salary: £16,466-£17,271 per annum Working hours: 26 hours per week Term Time Only plus 5 INSET days Closing date: Monday, 23rd November at 9am Interview date: Tuesday, 8th December 2026.

The Role

Hayesfield Girls’ School is seeking an organised and enthusiastic Food Technology Technician to join our DT department. Working closely with the Subject Lead , you will ensure our teaching kitchens run smoothly, safely, and efficiently. You will prepare ingredients and equipment for practical lessons, assist students in building their culinary skills, and maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene.

Key Responsibilities

• Kitchen Preparation: Set up ingredients, tools, and electrical catering equipment for practical lessons and demonstrations.
• Student Support: Assist teachers during practical sessions, guiding students on the safe use of kitchen machinery and equipment.
• Resource & Stock Management: Purchase ingredients within budget, negotiate prices with suppliers, and maintain stock records (including Pupil Premium support).
• Health & Safety: Ensure strict compliance with COSHH, Food Hygiene, and Health & Safety regulations across all food spaces.
• Maintenance & Events: Liaise with the site team for equipment repairs and assist with displays for Open Evenings and events.

Essential Requirements

• Catering Capability: Confident in using and demonstrating practical catering equipment.
• Student-Focused: Enthusiastic about supporting young people in a learning environment.
• Organisation: Good IT literacy for managing orders, stock records, and supplier communications.
• Physical Capability: Able to undertake physical tasks including lifting, stretching, and kitchen setup.

Desirable Requirements

• Experience in a school or commercial catering environment.
• Food Hygiene Level 2 certificate (or willingness to train).
• Knowledge of COSHH and workshop Health & Safety practices.
